To ordain someone in the ministry means to assign or to consecrate a person for the work of the Lord. Beginning in the old- right through the New Testament, God Himself appointed and ordained people for the work in the ministry. We also read that the Apostles themselves appointed and ordained ministers and elders in every Church that was planted. Acts 14:23 And when they had ordained ... elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. (KJV) The Apostle Paul also commanded the minister Titus to do the same: Titus 1:5 "... ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed you." (KJV) In obedience to this command the brothers in the Ministerial Committee and the Canadian Mission Board of the Church of God, felt that Pastor Schulz, who has served the Church of God in Wetaskiwin faithfully for almost 7 years, should be ordained. The following pastors, Harry Semenjuk, representing the Canadian Mission Board, Reinhard Roesler, representing the Ministerial Committee, and Siegfried Raasch, an ordained Minister, conducted the ordination service in Wetaskiwin on June 6, 2010 at 2:30 in the afternoon. After the introduction by Pastor Harry Semenjuk, the choir and a choral group sang songs they had chosen to encourage Pastor Schulz to continue serving in the Kingdom of God. Brother Roesler, Pastor of the Church of God in Toronto, based his message on 1Peter 5:2-4. 1Peter 5:2-4 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; (3) nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; (4) and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. (NKJV) Brother Roesler stressed the point that a pastor should not drive the congregation by force, but lead them by example with a loving and willing heart. Though a pastor's work is difficult at times, he can look forward to receiving the crown of glory when the Lord returns, in reward of faithful service. Then, based on the ordination questions, Pastor Schulz was ordained. Brother Roesler prayed and asked God to give him strength and courage to fulfill the duties of a pastor. The prayer was enforced by the laying on of hands by Pastors Roesler, Semenjuk, and Raasch. Following the service everyone was invited to a meal in the fellowship hall of their church building. Let us continue to pray for Pastor and Sister Schulz, who along with their three daughters, Gabriele, Monika, and Nicole, will be moving to Waterloo, ON to pastor the Church of God there. They will begin their service there in August, 2010. Their last Sunday in Wetaskiwin will be July 18, 2010 with a farewell service at 2:30 in the afternoon.
