“Then Jesus told them this parable […] Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.'” (Luke 15:3,8-9)
We have a Heavenly Father who proves His loving kindness in immeasurable ways. I experienced this in a special way once again this past week. One evening, I realized I had misplaced my cellphone and concluded that I must have left it in the shopping cart when I had bought groceries that afternoon.
I tried all the obvious means of trying to locate the phone and had inquired at the grocery store to see if anyone had found it, as I continually prayed for help from God. I knew that it was an act of carelessness on my part and told God all that in my prayers, admitting that it would be a natural consequence if I wouldn’t get it back.
Shortly before closing time, my husband and I biked back to the grocery store where I searched the area where I had returned my cart that afternoon. The carts had been moved to another area as other shoppers had used them, so I lost hope of finding my phone. An employee, as well as my husband, were calling my number to locate the phone without success. I searched among the carts and quietly prayed… O Lord, if it is here, you can open my eyes.”
It was only moments after this prayer, after we had decided that the search was in vain, that we found the phone in one of the carts!
As we marveled at this miracle we had just experienced, my husband remarked. “If God cares to give back a lost cell phone, how would He not answer our prayers for the many lost sons and daughters?
This assurance brought a joyous anticipation of the time when God will fulfill those promises. We stood in front of the grocery store and wept tears of longing and joy, our hearts strengthened to carry on trusting.
